"Well, it's a matter of principle," Rath shot back, grinning at her as she giggled. She was pretty cute when she laughed. "I just need to be clear, that I'm not the kind of guy who's going to ask you to dance, just so I can grab your ass or something," he continued, glancing over toward his sister for a moment as he spoke. She had been staring again, and once more quickly looked away. Ophelia looked pretty amused with the whole situation, too.
"Seriously, I'm not just some douche, even if I am a nerd," Rath added, as he spun her, laughing as well when she did, finding it rather infectious.

"My ears are burning," Leigh muttered a moment later, after trying and failing at trying to think of the costume possibilities for "Super Sera and Henchlady" -- and failing. "Someone must be talking about me." The blonde peered over her shoulder and stopped cold.
"Sera, Rath is...dancing. It seems like he's doing so willingly. With a girl! Is that...Meghan? I don't know that costume, and Rath is practically drooling on her. Must be a video game character," the blonde decided, and turned to watch them for a minute, unconsciously wrapping an arm around Sera's waist as she did so. She idly watched him spin her around, and laughed. Leigh giggled, and added, "Your brother is so cute. We should go say hi when they're done."

Seraphim had been back to being involved in their discussion about gay superheroines, until Leigh finally took notice of Rath, and seemed to lose all interest in discussing anything else. "Oh, yeah. I saw them talking earlier, I was wondering what was going on. I invited her, but I didn't think she'd get stuck hanging out with my brother," the brunette mused, leaning into the arm that Leigh wrapped around her waist. "Not that she seems to be complaining, they both look like they're having a blast," she quickly added, as she observed the spin as well, and couldn't help but smile some.
"Looks like he's even putting in effort, you taught him so well," she said, sighing dramatically. "Our little boy is growing up. But he's not cute, just for the record. I'm thinking that he figures a girl dressed as a pixelated girl, is almost as good as a pixelated girl. I'm just glad he's not dancing with a blow up doll or something," Sera continued, with a little giggle of her own. "Seriously though, we'll go and do our formalities when they finish up. I figure you'd want to show off your costume anyway, you hussy."

"Yeah," Leigh answered, smiling winningly, "that'd be a lot more threatening if you didn't love me in this outfit." She looked down again. "I found this cute base-ball player outfit I was quite tempted to wear, but I figured sporty was too close to the every day. Although, uh, if we're being honest, I thought this skirt would be longer. I mean, I know I'm tall, but jeez." She smoothed down the white fabric, and shrugged. "Too late now anyway, and I'm reasonably confident in the attractiveness of my legs," she added. "And Rath wouldn't dance with a blow-up doll. Ever. I'm pretty sure. I hope. I'm just astonished that there's no DDR pad on the floor or something."

"I know the feeling of that," Seraphim murmured, glancing down to her own skirt. "I thought this was decades longer than it is, and I'm not even as tall as you. And although, yes, your legs are.. epicly gorgeous, and long, we'd be able to see everything if you put this outfit on. But really, the boots make up for it, don't they? I actually really like them. I'm glad they aren't heels, I don't think I could walk properly in heels after I've gotten into the wine," she added, glancing toward the refreshment table. "Speaking of that, why don't we go and grab a glass? Well, I'll grab a glass, you can have something else."
The comment about the DDR pad made her laugh a little, lifting a hand to cover her mouth as she did, not wanting Rath to know she was snickering at him. "Maybe that's what he's picturing? As they're dancing? You know, I bet he's got directional arrows on the brain."

Leigh nodded in agreement. "The boots are quite nice, really, I like them. And yes, your costume on me would most likely be the height of unacceptability in public," she blushed a little at the thought. "Yes, wine for you, the finest, of course. I'll just have a water or something. Although I need to dance to wake up any variety of thirst. Hopefully without any kind of arrows, mentally visible or otherwise."

"I'm not sure we exactly have the finest wines. Just whatever we brought over from the bottom of the fridge, although I know mom has a really nice few bottles on the rack at home, but we're not at home, and she'd also kill me if I drank them," Sera mused, taking Leigh's hand in her own, and twining their fingers together as they moved past people, and headed for the table. "And I'm not dancing without music, just so we're clear. When Random Comment starts playing, I'll dance, maybe. But I'm not going and waltzing to nothing, like those two."

"I'm very glad you're not the type of guy would ask me to dance just so you could touch me. It's happened too many times and really... I'm sick of it." Meghan laughed a little more as she followed Rath's gaze and spotted Tatum watching them. "Your sister is watching us..."
She flushed a little as she noticed that Seraphim and Leigh had also turned to look in their direction. Was it really a big deal that she was dancing with Rath? He seemed nice enough and she didn't see anything wrong with it. "Most nerdy guys aren't douches. They're too wrapped up in their games and books to take the time to be a jerk, ya know?" She laughed a little again as they continued to dance.

"Either she's wondering who you are, or she's wondering how you got me to dance willingly," Rath explained, laughing a little. "She's not used to me not being right beside her during a party. She's confused by her own freedom," he added, moving them in another spin, just as Leigh and Sera were heading over to refreshment table.
"I don't know if that's a compliment or not, but I'll take it as one," Rath replied, as she spoke about the typical concerns of nerds. "At least you're not ashamed to dance with me."

"She shouldn't be wondering how I got you dance. After all, you were the one who asked me. And I'll tell her this if I need to." Meghan had a look of mock seriousness on her face before she burst out into a stream of giggles. "You and her are usually stuck by each other at parties, hmm? Well, it looks like I'll have to come to more parties so that you're not some sort of third wheel."
"It's definitely a compliment, Rath. I'm sorry if it didn't sound like one." She smiled a little wider now as she tightened her arms around his neck a little more, "I'm definitely not ashamed to be dancing with you. Why would I be ashamed to be dancing with such an attractive fellow?"

"See, but she doesn't know that. She's used to me being dragged onto the floor by Leigh, I don't usually ask girls to dance with me, I'm too nervous," Rath replied matter-of-factly, giving her a sheepish smile as she began to giggle. "And yes, you will, won't you? We're always stuck together, always have been, as we're twins. But since she started dating Ophelia, which has actually been a number of years now, the whole twin thing has begun to feel more like triplets, and I usually do feel like the third wheel," he admitted quietly, just a hint of a frown tugging at the corners of his lips.
At the tightening of her grip, however, he had to smile. And he was sure his cheeks might have been as red as his hair when she called him attractive. "W-What? Are you having me on? I'm not attractive, seriously. If I were, I'd have danced with more girls than just my sister, and my sister's girlfriends. And well, you. I'm lucky to have danced with you too, miss Meghan."

"You didn't seem all that nervous when you asked me to dance," Meghan mused, a thoughtful look on her face. "I'll have to tag along a lot more often so that you don't feel like a third wheel. I've been there before and it's never a pleasant experience."
"I think you're attractive," She shrugged a little, the smile on her face growing wider. "I'm guess I'm a little glad that you've only danced with your sisters and their girlfriends before. Because you'd be here dancing with some other girl and well..." She trailed off as she felt her face flush.

Why did she have to be late? To a part, of all things? Lucy Hartigan, the girl who was at least half an hour earlier for absolutely everything, had just dashed out of the house, fixing the little horned veil she wore on her head. She had almost contemplated not going; the costume, though adorable on the model on the packaging, looked horrendous on her. Why on earth did the widest part of the dress have to hit her on the only fat part of her body, her hips? She almost felt like she was going to cry as she looked in the mirror, but scolded herself for even thinking of it. Luce wasn't that kind of girl. Honestly. Plus, she had to go. Brody was going, and it was the Wainwright's party. Lucy had to be there both for backup and for peer mediation, just in case. Plus, she'd been promised a joint.
Arriving to a packed street, Lucy circled for five minutes before finding a spot. She locked her parents' Pursuit up, grabbed her purse, and looked at her devil Fairy costume once more. Yep, she was disgusting. She sighed, and headed up to the door. She dodged a few kids out smoking on the steps, and let herself in. Her eyes scanned the room, trying to find Brody. It seemed she didn't know anyone, where had all these kids come from?

"I've had years to perfect hiding it, that's all," Rath teased her, smirking a bit. "Seriously though, you've already been ten times more fun than either of them have been in recent years. If they're not drunk, they're usually off doing unsavory things, or.. crying, yeah. Sometimes they get to crying, when they really get to drinking. I hate weepy drunks, and I have two of them," he explained, making a face.
Rath couldn't help but smile at her, swallowing hard before he spoke. "I think you're attractive, too. Just for the record," he assured her, with that same smile. It was frank, and a little awkward, but at least he was honest about it.
Brody hadn't even realized how long she had been sitting in the car, really. She had smoked three cigarettes, and had the window cracked slightly to let some of the smoke out, and also to let the cold air in. She had been listening to the tape deck, deciding to listen to the first tape she had found and shoved in. She was muttering along with the current song as she waited; Wild World, by Cat Stevens. "But if you wanna leave, take good care, I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear, but then a lot of nice things turn bad out there.."
She didn't snap out of her pity party, until she noticed the car that was pulling up, looking for a spot. It was definitely Lucy's [or rather her parents] car, and the light-haired girl brightened up a little at the sight. She glanced toward the clock, realizing at last how long she had been outside. Almost forty minutes. Lucy may have been late, but at least it wasn't a catastrophe, as it easily could have been.
Watching her friend find a spot, before getting out, and heading into the house, Brody sighed. This was it then, off she went. Rolling up the window, she turned the keys back, shutting off the stereo, and unlocking her door, climbing out and then locking it again before slamming it. One, two hip checks, just to make sure it was shut tightly. She ducked into the back seat to grab Hal, and then locked that door, and performed the same treatment. Inhaling deeply, she slung the guitar strap over her shoulder, and headed up toward the front of the house. She stepped around the same kids that Lucy had avoided, and opened the door just a few moments after her friend. She was just in time to catch the other girl's back, reaching over and proding her roughly in the shoulder.
"Hey bitch, about time you showed your ugly face. Looking good."

"Oh, so that's how it is, is it?" Meghan smirked back at him before sticking out her tongue a little. "Well, you won't have to worry about me getting drunk or doing...unsavory things. I'm a good girl, I promise." She winked at him and then giggled, smiling wide.
"Thanks," She replied and once again tightened her arms around his neck. It had been a long time since she'd even spoken to a boy (let alone flirted with one), but talking to Rath was easy. It was almost as if she'd already known him before tonight.
