Caught up in her song as she played, Brody played the chords with ease, knowing the entire act off by heart. It wasn't hard, when it was her own thing; she could just improvise, if she felt the need. And that was half of why she hated covers in the first place, the need to perfection and sticking to regulation. She liked playing her own tunes, and going with the flow of it all.
She swayed just a little with the music, eyes closing.
"You're like an indian summer in the middle of winter, like a hard candy with a surprise center, how do I get better once I've had the best? You said there's tons of fish in the water, so the waters I will test. He kissed my lips, I taste you mouth, he pulled me in, I was disgusted with myself. 'Cos when I am with him, I am thinking of you.."
"Seraphim Donelly-Rousseau," the brunette replied, smiling a bit as she leaned back more comfortably to the counter. She didn't say it with her own arrogance, simply because Leigh would nag, and that members of her clubs were usually exempt from her elitist attitude. On most days, anyway. "I knew you seemed familiar, but it was hard to place you. Which is bad memory on my part, since our French club is pretty tiny.. there can't be any more than, what, fifteen of us?"
She glanced at her girlfriend as she spoke, lifting a hand and letting it hang a little over the edge of the counter in Leigh's direction, offering it to her to hold.

Leigh easily picked it up the proffered hand, casually entwined their fingers and gave it a light squeeze, and teased, "I know, I know. I speak French, too, I should join the club. Weeeell," she drawled out the word. "I don't wanna. And I have a job, unfortunately. So neener." She blushed and then grinned at the newcomer. "Don't mind me Marianne, I'm lonely and need more coworkers. And I'm not afraid to mope about the solitude. Speaking of which, would you like a job? Or Jack? He might start liking it better here and stop hiding out there all by his lonesome." The blonde tucked hair behind her ear with her spare hand and grinned.

"Thirteen, my last count," Marianne said, smiling. "I don't understand why it isn't more popular. " She turned to Leigh, "I'm fifteen," she explained. "So I couldn't work here even if I wanted to. But if you're really looking for people, I should mention it to my brother for sure. He's 'funemployed', as he calls it. Which is more or less code for 'lazy' and 'broke'," she said, giggling.
What the hell was taking Mare so long? Jackson wondered as he shifted uncomfortably in his chair. He glanced over to the coffee counter; there was his sister, talking away with Leigh and Seraphim. She was, however, holding coffee, so he figured he may as well go grab his. He pushed his chair back and slowly got to his feet, stuffing his hands in his pockets as he headed to the bar. "Hello, ladies," he said, smiling as he grabbed his coffee from his sister. "Thanks for leaving me alone, Mare," he said, raising an eyebrow at his sister. "Appreciate it, man," he joked.

"You!" Leigh demanded pointing at him, "Work with me. Or else!"

"Er, what?" Jackson asked, taken aback.
"Leigh needs coworkers, you need a job," Marianne said, smiling. "I mentioned your so-called 'funemployment'. You're way too old to not be working."
"You're way too young to be giving me career advice," he teased. He turned back to Leigh. "So you need more... barmen? You don't even have any guys working here, do you? I mean, I like coming to the shows. They're sweet as hell. But.. am I really what you're looking for here?"
"You're such a woman sometimes, you know?" Marianne said, sighing. "Take the job. He'll take the job," she said, firmly to Leigh.

"Good!" Leigh said to Lucy, and then considered Jackson for a moment. "Well," she decided, "no time like the present. Go through that door down there," she pointed, "I'll meet you back there and give you an apron. You can fill out your forms tonight after we close up. I'll go ahead and give the boss a call to let 'em know that I' hired you. We'll start you with the same minimum wage that we all get and see how you work out and then negotiate." Leigh delivered all of that speech in a single breath and then gave him another look. "What, you goin' or you just gonna stand there all night?"

"Mm, yes, you should join. But you're already on soccer and track, and I know how you'd hate to sit still and have a conversation for two seconds, especially in French," Seraphim sighed, smiling idly as she gave Leigh's hand a gentle squeeze in return, quite content to hold the blonde's hand right then. It was calming. She turned to Marianne, shaking her head some. "Hey, fifteen isn't so bad. Some places will hire you, my sister works with a fifteen year old at her job, actually. But I can understand if you don't want to work with this retard," she explained, motioning to her girlfriend with her free hand, before she used it to pick up her mug.
She gave it a little wave in Jackson's direction, when he joined them, before taking a long drink. Which she almost choked on when Leigh blurted out what she did next; she never was one for beating around the bush, really. "He doesn't even get a choice?" she spluttered, half way to laughing.

Leigh stuck her tongue out at the name calling, "Pft, you love a retard," she said teasingly. "At least I get to claim I'm all over an evil, sexy genius who's gonna take over the world. You like me, sucker!"
At the final question gave Sera an even look, cocking one eyebrow. "Do you really need to ask? No. No, he doesn't get a choice." As if to prove the statement she looked at Jackson. "Move it!"

"See? This is how you get things done," Marianne said, beaming at Leigh. She turned to Seraphim, "If you gave him a choice he'd think about it for the next month. In that time, 6 other people could be working here. Also, where does your sister work? I could really use a job, both me and Lazy-ass Magee here still get allowances... it's very sad," she said, laughing. She turned to her brother, "Well, you heard the lady, are you going or not?"
"Hey you, who's the big brother here?" he said testily to Marianne."And... okay, I'm going... thanks?" he said, "I do appreciate it. And mouthy or not, the little one's right, I woulda sat on it way too long. So your boss doesn't care if you recruit people? That's cool. And I just need to work around soccer..."

"I'm efficient when I have to be," Leigh giggled at Marianne, and then said to Jackson, "Dude, I'm on the girl's soccer team. And track. We'll work out the schedule. And my boss adores me. Especially seeing I've been closing by myself for like...two weeks. Including during Random Comment shows. Get your ass back here before I dress you in the pink apron. We keep one for just these kind of reasons. And I'll be singing "Geek in the pink" at you for the rest of the night, too."

Jackson laughed. "I'm going, I can't wear pink. Good song, though," he said, as he headed for the door she indicated.

Leigh offered Sera a wink before she disentangled their hands and headed back to meet Jackson in the back room, where she grabbed one of the dark-blue aprons from the wall. She opened the door to let Jackson in, and held it out to him. She only waited long enough for him to grab it before going to the shelving unit behind them, hopping onto the lowest shelf, moving around boxes trying to find one of the hats that all of the employees were forced to wear. "You'll like it here," she said, into one of the boxes. "Free coffee, good tips. Just make sure to be polite and well-groomed." She glanced over her shoulder and gave him a once-over. "Which doesn't seem to be a problem, thank God. Unlike Brad, one of my old workers. He of the overpowering stench. I think you're the only guy right now, but how is that bad? You'll be surrounded by sexy barista ladies, right? Unfortunately, I don't think any of us sexy baristas are single, but I'm not sure? Also, hey, you get to meet lots of people. That's always a good thing."

"Well, that was quick," Seraphim replied idly, watching both Jackson and Leigh disappear into the backroom. It didn't shock her, really, since she was quite familiar with Leigh's forward nature, and determination. And really, having Jackson's little sister there to back her up, had only fueled the flame of domination. Since the blonde was quite cute when she got bossy [though it never actually worked on Sera], the brunette didn't have any sort of complaints. She simply lifted her mug, taking another drink, before returning her attention to Marianne.
"Allowances are terrible. Though I.. er, well, I still get one. I just don't know where I want to work yet. My brother works at the mall, so that's out, and my sister works downtown, so that's out. And Leigh works here, and working with significant others is, apparently, a huge no-no. I had no idea, but she says it is. So I dunno yet, I might just work at the library with her friend Adrian. I can dig books," she explained, stopping once she realized she was rambling. "Oh, anyway. My sister works at the video rental store, downtown. You might have seen her around the cafe, actually. Red hair, really thin? Freckles? You two actually look like you could be more related than she and I. But they're looking for people, I say go for it."

"Sexy baristas are a plus whether they're single or not," Jackson said, wiggling his eyebrows as he accepted his apron and hat. "Makes me look wanted to the other ladies, right?" he asked, grinning broadly. "And the thought of not having to pay for coffee is friggin' sweet, seeing as it's all I spend my money on anyway. And gas," he explained. "I'll get to take the car way more now. Which is definitely a plus." He decided to tie on the apron and pop the hat on right away. "And I'm definitely 'well-groomed' or whatever you wanna call it," he said, indicating his preppy outfit. "I promise you I shower."
"There's definitely somewhere hiring that's right for you," Marianne said hopefully. "I don't doubt it for a second. The library would be a sweet job; I read a lot too, so I can see how it's appealing. And she works at the video store you say? I think I know who she is, actually, since Jack and I are there fairly often. He's really into movies, especially arty ones, he wants to get in to the film industry. He'd be terribly jealous if I worked there," she said, her eyes shining. "I would love to have a job though, the thought of being independent just... tickles me, really," she rambled on. "So I think I'll definitely apply there. Thanks for that info! I really appreciate it."

"I'm sure it exists, I'm just failing hardcore at finding it, is all," Sera replied, sighing just a bit. "Seriously though, jealous siblings? They are the best sort of siblings. I'll put in a good work for you, with mine, and you can make yours mucho jealous. It will be most glorious, I swear. And then I'll focus on getting my job.. I should probably talk to Adrian, actually."
Pausing for a moment, she drained the last of her mocha, before sliding the mug back down onto the counter. "We should move, though, because I think this place is going to be flooded with people in about two point five," she said, motioning toward the stage, where Brody was lowering her guitar, apparently readying for her first break.
Picking up her coffee again, as the song was ending, Brody leaned forward a bit to speak into the microphone. "Okay, gentlemans and their ladies, ten minute breather. Go forth, get your caffeine, and Lucy, get your skank ass up here for a second, actually."
